Defensive Driving Course: Point & Insurance Reduction Program
Individuals who complete this course are eligible to receive a 10% reduction in the base rate of your auto and motorcycle insurance premiums and can be eligible to reduce as many as 4 points off your New York driver’s license.
The DMV computer system automatically applies the point reduction when your course completion is added to your record. If your record shows any convictions and the points they carry, a notation will be added that you completed the course and a reduction of up to 4 points has been applied.

Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites needed to attend this course. Students must be able to verbally communicate with instructor in primary language of the training.
Training Requirement for Defensive Driving Course
This course is voluntary and does not meet any specific regulatory or industry requirement.
Audience
This course is for motorists who would like to improve their driving strategies to help minimize risks that are associated with hazards on the road.
Completion Requirements
Students are required to complete 100% of the course and actively participate in all learning activities including hands-on demonstrations. Upon completion of training, attendees will receive a course completion certificate for the 6 HR Defensive Driving Course Point & Insurance Reduction Program sent directly to the student’s home within 45 days of the completion of the course.
Make-up time is not permitted for this training course. Should students miss any portions of the course, it is the student’s responsibility to contact TSCTA to arrange to attend another scheduled event.
