Outdoor natural gas-fueled heaters are popular with restaurants and foodservice operators as they are an effective method of extending the outdoor dining season. A sidewalk café with added warmth can be operational later into the fall through winter by providing additional heat to an area that would otherwise be unpleasantly cold. This will be especially beneficial as the service industry adapts to COVID-19. The G-93 Certificate of Fitness holder is required for the Supervision of portable outdoor natural gas-fired heaters in sidewalk cafes.

This seminar will assist students in preparing to successfully pass the written examination required by the FDNY to obtain the  Certificate of Fitness for Supervision of Portable Natural Gas Heaters (G- 93) which can be taken,  in person at FDNY’s headquarters through a computer-based exam.

This is an awareness-level course only and does not qualify the student to OPERATE a mobile elevating work platform.

Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP) are machines/devices intended for moving persons, tools, and materials to a working position, consisting of at least a work platform with controls, an extending structure, and a chassis. The most common examples of MEWPs include Articulating Boom Lifts, Scissor Lifts, Vertical Lifts.

MEWP is a device that enables access to hard-to-reach places by lifting a platform into the air. These devices give workers temporary access to otherwise inaccessible locations. The devices are easy to use and are typically safer to use than ladders and scaffolds. These devices are usually powered by electricity, gas, pneumatic, or hydraulic systems that power a series of supports, lifting the work platform. The purpose of the MEWP Awareness class is to review and explain basic safety rules associated with the use, operation, and inspection of MEWP units. The course curriculum includes updated ANSI A.92 Standard requirements for Mobile Elevating Work Platforms that came to life on June 1st of 2020. This awareness course is designed to help workers avoid accidents and injuries while working on or around MEWPs.

Please note that this session does not meet OSHA requirements for aerial lift operators training which must be provided by a qualified person and include specific criteria listed under ANSI 92.24 Standard.

The purpose of this training is to provide students with general instructions regarding the inspection, application, and operation of aerial platforms, including recognition and avoidance of hazards associated with their operation. Students will develop the competency needed to operate MEWPs safely while also complying with the laws governing their operation.

The combination of classroom theory training and practical assessment aims to reduce the risks related to MEWP operation by teaching the fundamentals of safe operating procedures.

In order to successfully complete this training, all participants must pass a practical (hands-on) assessment on the specified equipment at the client/employer’s facility.

The course will review the fundamentals of Silica and respirable crystalline silica, basic health hazards and risks related to exposure, PPE, engineering controls and safe work practices.

The 2-Hour Silica Hazard Awareness Seminar is appropriate for individuals who may be exposed to respirable crystalline silica in the course of construction activities. Occupational exposure occurs when cutting, sawing, drilling, and crushing of concrete, brick, ceramic tiles, rock, and stone products. Occupational exposure also occurs in operations that process or use large quantities of sand, such as foundries and the glass, pottery and concrete products industries.

Additionally, per OSHA 1926.1153, effective September 23, 2017 (delayed from original enforcement date of June 23, 2017), the training will cover the new permissible exposure limits, specific requirements for exposing controls, competent person, and training and record keeping.
