Course Description
The course includes discussions on different types of signals used and practical scenarios to prepare students for a practical and written examination that is administered at the end of the course.

- Crane components
- Proper use of the ANSI hand signals
- Crane characteristics and dynamics
- Signal person requirements per OSHA 1926.1419-1926.1422
- Working near power lines
- Voice signals

Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites needed to attend this course. Students must be able to verbally communicate with instructor in primary language of the training.
Training Requirement for Certified Signal Person Training
The 8-hour Signal Person Training is designed to fulfill the training requirements for Qualified Signal Person under the new OSHA Subpart CC- 1926.1400.
Audience
Effective November 8, 2010, per the new Cranes and Derricks Standard Subpart specified in 29 CFR 1926.1428, a qualified signal person is NOW required in any construction site.
Completion Requirements
Students are required to complete 100% of the course and actively participate in all learning activities including hands-on demonstrations and the multiple choice and hands-on final exams. Students must obtain a score of 70% or higher on each to receive a certificate of completion and a Signal Person ID card from TSCTA.
Students who do not pass the written or hands-on exam will have an opportunity to retake the entire course at a reduced price of 50% of the original course fee. Students must contact TSCTA to schedule and pay for the retake class within 6 months following the original class date. After 6 months, students will be required to pay the full course fee.
Make-up time is not permitted for this training course. Should students miss any portions of the training, it is the student’s responsibility to contact TSCTA to arrange to attend another scheduled event.
